SB-400 vs SB-401 question

Hi Green Keepers!

I'm looking for a companion transmitter for use with my SB-303 and
wondered if there is enough difference between the SB-400 and the SB-401
to warrant trying to find one versus the other?  The SB-303 manual shows
a few more things to modify on the SB-401 when hooking them together but
there isn't much clue as to which is favored. Can someone answer this?
