MT-1 Cheyenne Transmitter Questions

Hi,
I recently acquired a Cheyenne/Commanche (AM/CW) pair. I have a few
starting questions.
1. I am going to remove a mod. Someone mounted a toggle switch on the rear
panel of the transmitter, below the key jack. It basically connects pin 1
from the power supply connector to pin 1 of the receiver connector. As best
I can say, it looks like it is bypassing the relay which must disconnect 300
v from the receiver when transmitting? Is this correct? Has anyone else
seen this?
2. Is it recommended to lubricate the main frequency tuning gears? There
are a couple of metal gears and a plastic gear. I didn't see any
reference to lub in the manual. I can feel every tooth when turning the
dial. At first I thought it was a built in detent. Now I think its just
rough meshing of gears.
I fired up the receiver and it works. These will be fun to run on AM and
CW!
Anyone actively using these rigs?
Thanks.
