Heathkit SB Line Dial Drive Assembly

Got an answer Ralph....

I'm going to try to show it with a Visio drawing when I get a chance. It's a
simple fix, but hard to explain. I still haven't applied the fix to any of my
radios yet because I just moved into a new home and don't have a decent
workspace set up. And, there are other problems with mine that I discovered
while trying to do this.......

Remove the dial knob. Loosen the dial shaft lock nut. At this point, if you
lift the top cover and use a flashlight to look directly down on the backside
of the front panel, you'll see the end of the dial drive pulley (it's actually
the other end of the part you just loosened the lock nut of). It's supposed to
"straddle" the inner edge of the dial drive ring. Yours is all the way in past
this ring. That's why you have to pull out to get enough friction to move the
dial. If you carefully lift up as you are pulling out, and get the dial drive
pulley to "straddle" the inner edge of the dial drive ring, you're golden. It
should look like a sandwich when you're done: the dial drive ring in between
the TWO halves of the dial drive pulley. Then, push the shaft DOWN until you
feel the proper amount of resistance to cause friction on the dial drive ring,
and re-tighten the shaft lock nut. Replace the knob and try it out. That should
do it!

Thanks to all the people who answered my plea! It's nice to know I stumbled
into a group of really responsive individuals who care as much about these old
"Greenies" as I do. 73's!
