Drake 2T vs. Heathkit DX-??

As a proud owner of a HW16, I will make a couple of comments.

It was my novice rig and I still have it. It was a $100 beginners rig in one
package. It only needed a crystal, headphones, antenna and key and you were
on the air. It was a good 40 and 80 M rig. It worked Ok on 15 M but could
have been a bit more sensitive.

Also, let's remember economics the Heath was $99.50 , according to me 1973
Lafayette catalog the 2C was $255 and the 2NT was $175. I will admit the 2C
and 2NT is more flexible but remember the Heath HW16 was designed to fit a
particular market and need. It sure fit my bill working after school and
saving for college.

Just as a note I have seen quite a few worse "communications" receiver. Also,
remember that its had a real crystal filter for CW use, not to mant rigs were
really provided with a CW filter in anywhere near that price class. Let's be
honest that for under a $100 it was a real nice deal.
