SB640 LMO help needed please

I have an SB640 that I am fixing for a friend for gratis and everything is
well now except the knob is slipping on the hairline plastic that it
controls.  The metal the washers are made of don't look like a guy could
pinch closer with a pliers so I am wondering who has the cure to make the
washers closer so they will run the plastic hairline??  Thanks for help.
