Come on Now you are missing out on the excitement and fun of years ago with
analog dials. Basically use
a 100Khz calibrator to align your receiver.
http://home.att.net/~jacksonharbor/ve3dnl.htm see
for a Marker Generator you can build yourself.

Then, just operate 5khz above or below the band edge for your class license
and you should be fine. We just to build a crystal oscillator and put in
different crystals then align the reciever dial to match that frequency.
Then you should know with in 1 to 2 Khz where you are at, as long as the
receiver did drift wildly.

Someone else can answer about the hook up and operation for this
combination. Buy a coax switch and dummy load or use a Antenna Tuner that
has in internal Dummy Load. Key the transmitter into the Dummy load,
the receiver should hear it. Then adjust the frequency dial until you zero
beat the reciever.
That elminates the transmitting of RF out. Here you can buy a kit, you can
put together in two hours
for measuring the Frequency of your Rigs.
