Tight SB tuning??

I dealt with that one on my SB-300. I think with age, the tuning dial
mechanism didn't hold up as well as most of us would wish. There's a number
of adjustments listed in the assembly manual such as making sure the LMO
dial assembly is parallel with the front chassis. There's also the pinch
drive mechanism adjustment which can be a pain. I found that by cleaning the
drive shaft and bushing in alcohol and re-lubing with silicon grease helps a
lot. Cleaning dirt accumulation around the dial ring also helped. I also
found a bushing with a slightly smaller inner diameter than the one I had.
When I put it in, the dial was real smooth. From there it was a matter of
re-assembly and adjusting the dial tension by moving the bushing up or down
as needed and tightening.

Subject: Tight SB tuning??

Hi folks...Anyone been through this already.
On SB (102,401,301,etc.)'s I have noticed that often the tuning knob is
overly tight. I have one that is silky smooth, but most are anoyingly too
tight.
There are no adjustments, and the pressure that various wheels push on other
wheels is not the cause.
Could it a greese dried tuning cap, or perhaps the adjustment that is at the
end of the tuning cap is too tight?
Has anyone been there, done that??
Thanks....Dave
