National 183D audio xfmr

Greetings heavy lifters: I seek some collective wisdom on how to repair
the audio output transformer for my National 183D receiver. My xfmr has
half a primary. It is potted and in a can.

Can one melt out the potting and rewind? How?

        Parts unit? NOS parts?

I want to preserve the can. Maybe there is a way to melt out the
original and install a current replacement xfmr (like at AES). In that
way the set would look the same, which is important in this case.
Usually I get em working, but this is a sentimental caper where outer
authenticity is important.

Tnx es 73
