Not necessarily. AEA made different versions of the PK-232. They're not all
compatible. The one I have is an early one without the mailbox function.
They also had different EEPROM revisions during the life of their product.
Did you ask the Timewave folks about it?

    didn't Heath put out a kit version of the PK-232?  I was just over at
the timewave website, and they had both a DSP upgrade to the PK-232 as well
as a CMOS conversion kit for lower power consumption.  If the AEA and
Heathkit units were in fact the same, these should then work on the Heath
units as well.
