HW-7 Mods?

Anyone ever try a bandswitched coil in place of the original 1.6 uH
torroid in the reciever front end of the HW-7 ?  If so, was the any
improvement in recieve ? And, was the preselector tuning less touchy ?
One operator told me about moving the tap on the original from one turn
up to two turns to improve 40 meters, so I thought of using the
bandswitched coil instead.  I already have a B&W coil that would work and
access to a grid dip meter, any thoughts ?
