Hello Phil,
Your message posted earlier today expressed my feelings quite
well. In one sense, I am a "newcomer" to Ham Radio (first license
in 1988). *But*, my electronics "roots" go way back to even the 40s,
when I was less than 12 years old. My late uncle, Harry, W6ARP was
my child-hood mentor and he taught me well. Electronics School-
student as well as instructor- in the USAF taught me well. (I just re-
belled at the 13wpm code requirement. But, I knew the theory!)
So, I, too, have trouble dealing with these appliance operators
who never heard of a Dummy Load (and how to use one!), how
to use a VTVM. ("Duh--- what is a Signal Generator used for?")
---- etc, etc. And, courtesy (tuning-up on top of someone else, etc) ?
*What courtesy? (They used to be called "lids"!)
SO, I appreciate your message 'Tho you were more out-spoken
than I might have been, I do admire you for "telling it like it it".
My station is strictly "boatanchor". I *like* being able to repair and
maintain my station--- and I'm proud that I can.
How many of today's rigs will be around and in use 25 years from now?
Precious few! Yet--- look at all the wonderful Heathkits still in daily
use!!
Sorry for the BW, but I needed to let Phil know someone agrees with him!
