tobacco smell

I bought an HW-16 and HG-10B that absolutely reeked of smoke smell.  In fact, I unboxed the equipment and set it in my hobby room.  The next morning the room smelled like someone had been smoking for hours.

What I did was to buy electronic parts cleaning fluid, a couple cans, and soaked the equipment, blew it off with compressed air (on low), and repeated several times.  I then left it in the garage for several weeks, and turned the equipment on for several hours at a time, until the smell finally went away.  

I've never tried the dishwasher method, but I would have some real doubts.  Tom W6EIJ
