Why?It has a humourus aspect, but it is also true. All reasonably normal human beings are motivated by a desire for happiness.People don't collect things because collecting makes them feel bad,and no human activity exists in a vacuum without an underlying reason. The greater the need to feel secure, or happythe more a collector will bid for a particular item. This is why we have bidding frenzies.Make a mental list of the folks you know to whom collecting is of the utmost importance, and you will find that they have gaps in other areas of their lives, such as being lonely or having poor social skills,or unhappy marriages.I am talking about the extremist collectors here, not the person who buys an occasional statue of an elephant to add to his elephant collection at $9.95 or less.

We have no government armed with power capable of
contending with human passions unbridled by morality
and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry,
would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as
a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made
only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate
to the government of any other.
