Hi!
Cetainly not all collectors are out of control;that is
collecting does not interfere with their lives as
drinking and narcotics use invariably do for the
addictive person. But the bidding frenzies on ebay and
the collectors I have known who place such extreme
importance on obtainig a particular item, and the
craving associated with collecting and the relief a
new piece added to the collection brings, all incline
me toward a belief that the roots of collecting lie in
a need to bolster one's sense of importance, esteem and
security via the collecting process.I don't see this
as necessarly "bad".There are far worse things to be
than a colector.
