HW-101 Problem: A Postscript

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to write me last week with
suggestions for curing the problem on the HW-101 I was working on. The
unit was showing full output on 20, 15 and 10 meters regardless of where
the "Mic-CW gain" control was set. Also, when I keyed the mic, I got
full output.

The solution was simple - the shields were missing on the 6CL6 driver
tube and the tube just in front of it. This immediately cured the
problem. Just to be on the safe side I did some additional bonding
between the grid and plate coil PC boards and the copper shields as
outlined in the manual. For some reason, this was missing on mine.
There is two additional copper "L" bracket that the copper shield plates
attach to. Perhaps this was a change in later versions of the 101.

After a complete realignment I decided to try it out over the weekend
and made some contacts in the WPX contest. It worked great.

Thanks again for all of the help.
