HW-101 T/R 'Thump' Problem

I'm looking for individuals who have experienced problems with 'silencing' the audible thump when going from Rcv to Xmt. I've investigated the circuit that is intended to silence the output audio amp during the transition state of the relay contacts. This circuit doesn't appear to work at all, although I recall listening to an
SB-102 (same circuitry for the most part) and the only sound you could hear while switching between rcv/xmt were the relays themselves. Did the HW-101 always have this problem or am I the only one? I've searched the websites for factory service info on this problem with no luck..

Any help would be appreciated... Thanks.
