Hi Gerry and List members. I located a source for the plastic tubing needed
for the Heathkit Mohawk and Apache dial drum. Try U.S. Plastics at
1-800-537-9724, they have extruded rigid acrylic plastic tubing. It is
catalog item number 44033, specs are 1 1/2 inch OD by 1 1/4 inch ID and sold
in 6 foot lengths only and the current price is $1.24 per foot according to
US Plastics. The color is transparent, if that's a color. With 6 feet you
could make up a pile of drums and sell them. Best wishes, Ken

I've had several replies on this subject so here goes :-)
5.75" long, 1.5" OD, 1.265" ID (I'd settle for 1.25") Transparency is what I
would characterize as semi-opaque. White would be a good second choice.
Thanks/73/Gerry/W1ID

Hi. If you list the diameter, length ans thickness of the piece of plastic
tubing you need someone may have the material or may have a lead to a
source. How transparent is it? Best wishes, Ken

I tried making a new dial drum for a Heath MR-1 receiver a short time ago. I
was able to make new artwork by scanning the drum for each band and making a
transparency using Visio 2000 professional. I'm still looking for an
affordable source of tubing of the correct diameter and transparency. I
found some but it's pretty expensive. Since the dial drum is not an
emergency project right now, I'll keep looking.

Hi,
Anyone out there have suggestions for repair of cracks in the dial drums?
Has a replacement been made or considered? I have an excellent Apache and a
well used Mohawk, both suffering from extensive cracks in their dial drums
at the ends.
I was considering going to the local firm that handles a wide variety of
plastics, and see if I can obtain the correct size, color and transparency.
If the stock was available, I would see if I could make the artwork for the
drum, transfer it to a decal, and see what I end up with.
I would welcome any thoughts or discussion...
Thanks and 73,
Michael
