Hmmm...not really sure how I got sucked into this particular thread, but
here's my very last comment on the matter.

It is somewhat suspicious that the following article appears in today's
Chicago Tribune:

Analysis of Beethoven's hair denotes lead poisoning

By Charlie Meyerson

Researchers who spent four years studying 20 strands of hair from composer
Ludwig von Beethoven conclude that he suffered from lead poisoning.

The team, directed by Dr. William Walsh, chief scientist at the Health
Research Institute, a public charity based in Naperville, this morning
reported that Beethoven's hair bears a concentration of lead 100 times the
level typically found in humans today. And they say lead may have
contributed to his death in 1827 at age 57.

"It was a surprise," Walsh said of the lead finding, "but it stood out like
a sore thumb in the analysis."

Walsh said the results were based on chemical analysis at the McCrone
Research Institute in Chicago and data gathered from an Argonne National
Laboratory electron accelerator capable of generating the most detailed
X-rays available today. He said the results suggest that lead poisoning may
have been the cause of many of Beethoven's chronic problems, including poor
digestion, abdominal pain, irritability and depression.

I'll spare you all the parts about Beethoven's syphillis and how QRM causes
deafness....
