SB-401&SB-303 Ticking noise

Hi.I recently aquired these units,after replacing some caps I got the rcvr working fine. My problem is the xmtr, it works OK on CW, but when I put a mike to it makes a ticking noise that shows on the S-meter and also goes out on the air. I,m using a PPT Turner mike that I think I've wired correctly.
I would appreciate any coments or suggestions.
