LM376 substitute.

Someone was looking for one either of these or a substitute a short while
ago. Try NTE1930 available(?) from Mouser. They supposedly have a fairly
complete line of NTE's products. Also try ECG1930. ECG products are
available from MCM Electronics. The LM376 as well as many other old
chestnuts are no-longer available and have been declared "obsolete". For the
curious, it's an 8 pin DIP positive adjustable voltage regulator from 5V to
37V @ 25ma. I suppose if I had to replace one, I wouldn't. I'd wire in a
317L instead. Sure it wouldn't be original but it would be more than
adequate for the job and more importantly: available. As an aside, almost
had to do the same on a recent home project. Was looking for a 12 volt low
drop out adjustable regulator to retrofit an old design that didn't have a
regulated
power supply. I first looked to my present employer, a very well-known large
semiconductor company, and found none! I could have gotten free samples.
Rats! Unfortunately for me and fortunately for my paycheck, they're in tune
with the rest of the industry which has gone to low voltage devices for
portable applications. Consequently, they didn't have anything available
over 10 volts and I had to go to brand X. Might not be a bad idea to stock
up on linear regulators before they too disappear.
