Harvey,
Here is another china horror story. While back I wanted to replace the
leaky water inlet valve to my house. Went to the local plumbing supply
and all he had was a china brass gate valve for 7 bucks. Installed it.
Last August went on a short vacation. Shut the water off as my Apache
and Mohawk were sitting on the floor and didn't want to get them wet in
case of a water leak. Came home late in the day and tried to turn on the
water. The "brass" in the valve had so much lead in it that the threads
stripped. Spent half the night getting water so I could flush. Next day
to the plumbing supply for another valve. Said would not buy another
china product. He agreed and said they were crap. Sold me a ball valve
made in Italy by Tyco. It is brass with Teflon seats, stainless ball,
and full flow through construction. About the same price so no more
china junk in this house. 73.
