SB 10

Jerry,

I'm not sure what you mean by good but my SB-104a puts out a fairly
clean 100 watts on 40 for example. When I use it on cw I back the power
down to only what's needed which is usually 10-25 watts. It's a good
rock-solid-stable and sensitive unit when compared to rice boxes but it
does not have DSP filtering or a fancy graphical display on the front
panel. I've never felt deprived of those things though. My unit has a
noise blanker which works but I don't use it much. Also I find that the
400 cycle crystal filter is a little too narrow and that the ssb filter
is very adequate most of the time except for field day and contests.

If you've just acquired this SB-104 then the first thing that you should
do is check to make sure that the 11 pin socket with jumper is plugged
in the back. That will keep the alc from working. The next thing is to
clean and lubricate the controls. Get some de-oxidizing spray like
De-Ox-id and treat all the exposed sliding contacts, including the board
connectors. If you still have a problem then go to Kees Talen's web
page for SB-104's. He has a good writeup on them with lots of good
troubleshooting suggestions.

Any suggestions out there on improving drive. Do any of the SB 104 rigs poke a good signal, by good I mean equal to a TR 7 or an Omni C ?
