[HeathKit] HX-10

Roger - Why do you hate to ask? You have a legitimate question and it
certainly is Heathkit related.

You HX-10 Marauder sounds normal...yours exhibits the same symptoms as mine. A
very excellent & stable SSB & CW transmitter by the way....last of the big rigs
by Heathkit.

First, Low high voltage reading...I do not believe it's the "1 meg/10K resistor
divider"...I recently got into mine and checked out these resistors & replaced
them with higher wattage resistors...no change...I still read about 550 to
600 V on the HX-10 meter...something else is "goofy" in this bridge circuit but
have not quite figured out exactly what....I need to go back to the handbook &
do some recalculations....something is not quite "right" in this particular
circuit.

Second, "Also the vox does not pick in CW full break in. PTT works fine on
AM,SSB. CW works fine in manual mode."....Yes, mine too (actually it's not full
break in, it's VOX tone keyed; full break in is not possible with the HX-10 as
we know it with the modern SS rigs - my TS-940 has full break in). I need to
install a foot switch & then I can elminate this condition. But it would be
nice to have a "totally" working VOX that does not drop the first dit or dash
on CW.

Third, Power output is the same. This is normal.

Fourth, as for weight...yes it does weigh a lot; certainly not a "ton"...about
96 pounds or so....shipping weight a bit more.

As for value....tough to say...the condition of yours is similar to mine...I
have not seen any recent ads for HX-10's especially on the reflectors (have not
checked E-place lately as I have not been looking for one)....but I would think
that a price of at least $325 or more is valid (depending upon
condition)...these are excellent stable SSB & CW transmitters (nice tone out on
CW and driven by a good mic sound just as good as today's modern SS
rigs)...once I find out the HV issue, & the vox, mine will be right up there
with the best of them...as soon as I really apply myself to the issue, I am
sure I can figure out the solution...just takes some time.

Best to you...hope you get a good price for it...
