The main reason that comes to mind as why not
to use Automobile Oil is that the stuff you use
in your car contains some serious detergents. They
are designed to pick up contaminants and the coatings
on the resistors may be attacked.

Next time your hands are crudy from working on the
car use fresh motor oil on your hands and watch the
grime slide off.
