two really strange questions

In a former life, I used to test (among other things) the output power of
commercial Litton microwave ovens used for cooking patient meals in a
hospital. The ovens I tested were name-plate branded with input power to the
tube. The actual output power was significantly lower - about 65% of the
name-plate claim, depending on the age of the tube. Thus, 1000 watt
microwave ovens produced about 600 - 700 watts of cooking power.

If you're interested, the testing protocol did not require any real
precision nor was it real fancy. Using a specific volume of water, you
measured its pre-cook temperature, subjected the water to a prescribed
amount of full-power cooking, then measured the rise in temperature of the
water. A simple formula was applied to the temp delta and yielded the output
cooking power of the oven.
