Escalators

A thought just occurred to me. Way back when CompuServe was the only
way to fly, we used to notice that traffic got much heavier, and the
messages posted in forums much more juvenile, right after the first
of the year. We soon figured out that it was all the little darlings
Momsy and Daddy had bought computers for, the previous Christmas.
With the computer, they got a chance to get online for the first
time, and used it to make life difficult for the rest of us.

This usually lasted until about the first of March, after Daddy got a
couple of CompuServe bills, then things went back to normal.

I'm not suggesting that the escalating eBay prices, particularly for
unbuilts, is coming from teens. But I wonder if a similar effect
isn't working. During the holidays, things were kinda slow. Then
they picked up dramatically right afterwards. I wonder if all of us
are not showing some signs of the "Wow! New Stuff!" syndrome. I know
I am.
