Don't judge them all by what @home does. My Time-Warner Road Runner
cable service hasn't even glitched for a second in several months now.
The log on the Linux router here shows the last glitch as being one of
about 8 seconds and that was last September. The first 3-4 months I
gave it it's share of cussing, but since they got the bugs out it has
been as good as gold 24/7.
I wish our Mindspring/Earthlink dialup service we had used for years
previous to that had been even 10% as good.
Busy-Disconnect-Busy-Slow-Busy-Disconnect,etc. Sometimes for hours.
BTW, you don't need a static IP for an onsite server. We have one here
and don't have static IP. There are programs you can run which will
automatically sense when your IP has changed and will automatically
notify the DNS server of the new IP address as soon as the change is
made. That is how we do it. Our's is not a public server. It is a
family use server, but the same things would apply. Someone who knows
Dale may wanna let him know.
Anyway, if it is like ours your IP never changes as long as you stay
connected. Ours hasn't changed in months.
