Don't laugh off the S-120 (or for that matter the GR-64) as "for the SERIOUS swl"....
When I was down in Guantanamo Bay in the late 60s, had call of KG4DF, ran CW and AM phone
with a Knight T-60 and a WR-600 (wood-look version of the S-120, but the same 5 tube
AC-DC killer shock box). Ran 40 through 10, made QSOs all over the world. Had a little
help on 10 with an Ameco preamp, but with some judicious tuning and patience even ran
some phone patches to stateside with it. Also logged most of the lower 48 on AM BC with
it, and the closest US station was Key West, several hundred miles away. Unfortunately
for the owner of the unbuilt GR-64, he may never know the true receiving capabilities of
it, choosing instead to keep it "unbuilt". Kind of like a Hess truck - "here kid, here's
a toy but dont take it out of the box and play with it....."
