Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I don't understand the need for TIFF
files.  We have a sheet-feed scanner at work and regularly scan documents
directly into Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (pdf) files.  Send me a good Xerox copy and I
can scan it in about 20-30 minutes or less, save it as a pdf file, and e-mail
it back to the owner who can then do a mass e-mailing to everyone on the
reflector, upload it to a server(s), print it out, or whatever the group
wants done with it.  Or if it's too big to e-mail, I can put it on a zip disk
and mail it back.
