Anyone notice HAMS?!! offering to part out rigs here and on the other lists,
who then cancel the parting out because the requests for parts wasn't enough
money. The only reason to part out a WORKING rig is to make MORE money than
possible selling it whole.Chop shops also do this to make money from stolen
cars(hmmmm.)
But as much as you or I may dislike parting out, it is the seller's choice,
just as it is your choice not to buy.
As for the fellow putting the original Drake filter back in a set and
selling the Sherwood (or any aftermarket addition), that seems perfectly
reasonable-there are probably many more people likely to buy an out 0f
production enhancement for the rig they already own ,than there are willing
to buy another rig just to get one part. The seller would have had a hard
time selling just the stock filter (or whatever) since the current owners
already have that. So three people are happy: the filter buyer, the rig
buyer, and the seller. Now if the seller had removed parts normally present
in a rig ,he's a jerk but you still don't have to buy.
Sometimes a person will buy something at public auction, yard or estate sale,
and find out afterwards that the previous user removed parts during an
attempted repair or enhancement-would anyone seriously suggest the new owner
has a duty to restore it before selling ? Of course not!
And if the missing item or part is important then adjust your price
accordingly or don't buy it.
Just like classic cars, there ain't a bunch of untouched, pristine rigs
someone is going to sell you for peanuts. Even nonhams know "old stuff" in
good shape is worth some money.
PRICES WILL BE ONLY AS HIGH AS BUYERS ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO PAY.Its called
free market and some are left wanting.
