Hi Tom,

You can get Self Clinching Nuts from P.E.M. industries or from Spae Naur or houses
specialising in distributing Nuts, Screws and mechanical fasteners. You can easily find
their site on the Web. To install that kind of hardware you have to drill a hole to the
manufacturer recomandations, put the nut over it and press it in the metal sheet. The
best installation procedure is to use an hydraulic press but I had very good results
using manual press, C-clamps and some times big hammers. This hardware works by
squeezing the metal to a point where it flows into cavities and knurls of the self clinch
nut. Gives very professional results and there is a lot of different configurations
available like nuts, standoffs, studs .... in alu, stainless steel or steel.

Another technique would be to use a kind of Pop rivet nut. Sorry I don't have the Spae
Naur catalog with me for the exact name. It works like a pop rivet but leaves a nut
instead of a nail. You get very nice result if you can accept a rivet like protusion on
one side of the metal and can borrow, rent or buy the installation tool.

Murray has a very simple and efficient way also. I also used it with good results.

So now you have at least 3 different way to overcome your problem.

Maybe to much choices is like not enough choices.

Good luck

Daniel
