Hi, Chuck;

Type accepted means the FCC has tested the performance of that particular
design and found it meets their requirements for stability, spectral
purity, etc. All commercial gear must be type accepted. The only reason I
can see for a piece of ham equipment to be type accepted is if it could
be used in other services also. (CB?)
