HW 101 vfo question

I've got a 101 that's working well, with the exception of a jumpy
vfo. I've had several reports of nice audio, followed by a several hundred
cycle jump in frequency. It's been suggested that I clean the rotor to
frame "wiper" (or whatever it's called! )in the VFO variable cap.
Sounds promising. My question is, can you get to the variable cap
by removing the lid of the vfo while it's in the chassis? Is there enough
slack in the wiring to move the lid to one side so as to gain access
to the innards?

It's been too long since I've built mine to remember!

Thanks in advance
John
