Unbuilt Heathlits

Wow, unbuilt Heathkits, what a novel idea, turn a worthless pile of junk
into thousands of bucks. Hey I'm no fool, I grabbed an old heath
transceiver and started unbuilding it. Darn, a bad start, I dropped a few
tubes. Then I tried to unsolder the parts and quickly realized that by
following Heath's directions of forming the wires around the tube socket
terminals I made un-soldering a real pain, so after a few hours I managed
to burn every &%#@(*&& finger, some in several places. I needed a better
idea, so out came the propane torch, I heated each tube socket until it
smoked and bounced the rig off the floor, sure enough the solder and most
of the terminals came off, now we're getting somewhere. I can always try
to fix the bent chassis later, actually the bouncing removed some of the
rust, more time saved. Unfortunately most of the nuts and bolts were also
rusted tight so I turned to my trusty all purpose car repair tool, my
hammer, I used the pointy claw end of the head and quickly removed all
the remaining parts, some came right off, some required a few hits and
they too were removed, no need to worry about the damage, I can always
make some excuse in the eBay listing, perhaps some fuzzy photos and
misleading text, or I can substitute a bunch of old crap from the junk
box and pretend it was heath parts, whose gonna know, real colletors
would never think of assembling the rig. Well, here I am, 4 hours later
and I managed to convert an assembled pile of junk into a real pile of
junk, guess this is one unbuilt heath that won't be seen on eBay any time
soon. Any takers?? Ken
