Variac

The Variac can provide isolation (as in DC isolation), however it has been my
experience that Variac can cause some noise at various harmonics. This noise
is usually very slight. Most Variacs have some current limiting properties.
So what this means is if you isolate after the Variac you will eliminate more
noise and cause less current loss.
