DX-100 chassis plating

The reason being, copper will stick to steel and nickel will stick to
copper, but nickel will not stick to steel very well. The nickel is what
gives the shine--the chromium is a protective flash layer over the nickel
I'm told. Hence the common advertisement for "triple step chrome
plating"--copper, nickel, chrome. Most "chrome" handguns are actually
nickel plated ["Nickel Plated Sissy Pistols" according to Tommy Lee Jones'
character in "US Marshals"]--but straight nickel plate has a yellowish cast
to it where alloying or overplating [whichever it actually is] with chromium
gives that bluish tint associated with "chrome" plating.

I'm rambling. My point is, your local independent American-brand-specialist
motorcycle shop most likely already has a plater they work with who is used
to the prep work involved in replating old/rusty/corroded stuff like exhaust
pipes etc.

[Sorry for the obtuseness--I can't use a 6-letter brand name starting with
"H" which is actually half a hyphenated brand name associated with a city
also famous for brewing beer, lest I royally piss off the copyright police
who are known for suing little old ladies who knit potholders incorporating
this infamous brand name I can't mention].

Check with your local chrome plating shops. Typically, part of the chrome
replating process involves copper plating prior to the final plating
stages. They will be able to prepare your chassis for the replating
process also.

The DX-100 is finally painstakingly "un-built". Paint for the cabinet is
on order. Now, it's time to go through and test all the components and
purchase new ones where necessary. Looking forward to "building" the
DX-100 "kit". (Maybe I should pack all the parts up in paper bags, for
effect?)

Anyway, the chassis is in very rough shape. I'm planning on cleaning it
up, obviously, but what really needs to happen is it must be re-plated.
Anyone had this done in the past? Any recommendations as to who does
decent work on copper plating?

Tnx es 73,
Paul, wb9hgz
