What is the point of reserve price auctions vs. minimumacceptable starting bid?

I believe Ebay calls this a "Reserve Price Auction"! The only
difference is that you don't know what the reserve price is, so there is
some mystery involved! The presence of a reserve is only a way to
insure the resulting sale will realize some certain level. A minimum
price is the same thing. It weeds out the low bidders and leaves the
ones you want!
For the life of me, I cannot understand why so many people want to
complain about Ebay and its policies. If you don't want to play, can't
even bother to read the site! What use are stupid messages about
something selling for an astronomical price. The item is worth what it
is worth in the mind of the buyer! All the rest of the opinions are
irrelevant!
