2 pin mic connector

Morning all,

I feel sort of silly asking such  a dumb question, but what is the
preferred method for connecting the common ground wire to the shell of
those two pin (male) mic connectors. I just tucked it down between the
spring strain relief and the jacket of the mic cable and then spread the
spring coils and pulled the end of the wire through the gap and released
the spring so it clamped the wire securely.  The retaining set screw
provides a secure connection from the spring  to the shell of the
connector. It works just fine but I'll bet anything that's not the way
it supposed to be!!
