Per the manual:

Determine the desired length of your microphone cable, and cut off any
excess. Unbraid the shield for a distance of 7/8 inch.

Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the two inner leads. Then
melt a small amount of solder on the exposed lead ends. Now proceed to
the steps on Figure 1-7.

The steps in Figure 1-7:

1. Determine which lead is the audio lead. Pictorial shows the audio
lead going to pin 1 and the PTT to pin 2.

2. Prepare the end of the microphone cable as shown. Pictorial shows
the outer insulation being removed for a distance of 1 and 1/8 inches
from the tip of the tinned wires. The braid on the audio conductor is
cut back 7/8 inch from the tip of the tinned wires. This leaves 1/4 inch
of braid left on the audio lead.

3. Slip the housing and spring on cable.

4. Push (place) spring to the end of the outer insulation and fold braid
over. The pictorial shows the braid folded over the small end of the
spring. What is not specifically shown is that the braid has to be
unwoven to do this. What is shown is that the braid is soldered to the
outside of the spring.

5. Push the audio lead through pin 1 and the PTT lead through pin 2.

6. Solder both pins from the bottom and then cut off the excess wire.

7. Slip the housing over the assembly and fasten both setscrews.
