Heathkit SB 102

I have aligned the receiver section but it still seems rather "deaf".

Are the receivers in the SB102  just deaf or are they just quiet? I've been right through this thing, all new tubes except for the 6EA8's and 6BN8.

The action of the variable capacitors on the preselector seem to be working opposite how they should be. Has anyone got any clues?
