Operating Quirks of the Most Accurate Clock

Dear Ed Goss:

I've never owned one of those "Most Accurate Clocks", but from what I
understand, the receiver was made reasonably "hot" so as to provide a decent
signal in order to lock onto the synch pattern. My belief here is that the
receiver of the "Most Accurate Clock" is being overloaded, and the
spurious-producing IMD is causing severe interference. You may want to try
to attach an input attenuator from your inverted-V or use a smaller antenna
(or whip). Just a thought.

Subject: Operating Quirks of the Most Accurate Clock

Hello,
I've been using a factory-assembled Most Accurate Clock for
several months. A neat gadget, as those who use one know. I
have set mine up with an outside inverted vee, oriented towards
WWV (I live in Maryland). This antenna works well on my other
receivers, giving a strong WWV signal on 5, 10, and 15 mHz, as
propagation allows.
However, I notice the clock rarely locks on to the 10 or 15 mHz
signal, and when I listen to the audio from the clock on 10 and 15
mHz, it's covered with interfering signals. The calibration section of
my clock manual doesn't show anything in the way of receiver
adjustments.
There must be a way to peak the incoming signal on 10 and 15
mHz, and perhaps "tune" the receiver to better hear WWV. The
schematic shows input coils, mixer, and IF transformers that are
adjustable. Does the kit version of the clock manual detail receiver
alignment? I hesitate to start peaking these coils and transformers
without the proper procedure. Or is the receiver in this clock prone
to interference and garbage that masks WWV?
     Thanks for any suggestions.
