General Coverage Receiver Question (Tube).

Hi, Noel;

In my opinion, the GR-54 was probably the best tube-type general coverage
receiver that Heathkit made. Remember, Heathkit catered to the cost
conscious, and can't hold a candle to the big manufacturers.
Hallicrafters SX-28 was a popular receiver. The SX-100 was a better
receiver, along with National's HRO-60, Hammarlund's Super-Pro, and many
others. Get Osterman's book "Shortwave Receivers, Past and Present" and
compare them. You will find it very informative.

Regards,

Ed Richards
