AT-1 Fix-up Question

My experience is similar to Glen's. Just bring 'em up slow, with a
variac or by some other means. What can I tell you, I'm cheap. If I
can salvage them and save 50 bucks, what can I say?

Current project is a Heath DX-100, complete rebuild. Removed the
filter caps and brought them up "manually" using a Heath IP-17 variable
HV supply. After probably 30 years in some guy's garage, they came up
fine and held a charge.

There was a recent thread on the list discussing using the Heath (or
similar) cap checker to slowly bring up the voltage. I've done that as
well.

Now, those wax covered paper bypass caps, they are another story!
 Replace 'em!
