AR-3

I recently picked up an orphaned Heathkit AR-3. I had always wondered if
it was a decent radio or not, but never had a chance to check one out.
The one I got had a few small cosmetic issues, and need a good cleaning
and alignment. I got it going with only the BAMA schematic.

For an “all-american five tube” format, it is a fine little set. It has
a somewhat strange physical appearance, but that seems to grow on you
after a while. It is a fairly hot radio, and might even work marginly as
half a ham station just for kidding around in a vintage way. I have a
copy of an old POPULAR ELECTRONICS magazine that shows a novice station
from the 50s using an AT-1 and an AR-3.

I was wondering if anyone else has experience or insight into this set?
Is the manual of any value for getting one sorted out? It is a rather
straightforward circuit.
