Actually, I think Cunningham-made tubes were preceded by a "3"---ex. 345.
Likewise, Kellog tubes (I think) had a "4".

A 245 is simply an early globe/balloon envelope version of the
'45...nothing more, I'm afraid! Ditto the 280-cum-80, etc. etc.

I have seen both Westinghouse and RCA Radiotron examples of this.
Curiously, though, I have a Rogers "45" that is plainly marked as such, is
in a balloon envelope, and has a PERFORATED MESH PLATE!

Most unusual, and a delight to the eye...
