airplane "story"

OK, here is the airplane "story" that was told at Neal Turner's retirement
party several years ago. Neal was director of product planning. By the way,
regardless of what anyone else tells you, Neal was the last of the so-called
"untouchables" (who had a job at Heath as long as he wanted).

Anyway, here's the story:

Heath engineers were working late for several evenings working on a major
design problem with the airplane. One particular evening the janitor stopped
by and asked the engineers why they were working so late. To satisfy the
janitor's curiousity, they told him about the wing problem. The next evening
the janitor stopped by again and suggested that they try drilling a row of
holes across the wing at the point where the fracture occurs. By this time
the engineers were willing to try anything, so they gave it a try. It
worked! The next time the engineers saw the janitor, they asked him how he
came up with such a brilliant idea. His answer was simply "well everyone
knows that nothing tears on the dotted line"!
