I use peanut butter. Sounds corny, but works great. No toxic chemistry.
Every household has some.
Put a little on your finger, and rub it (press hard) directly on the tape
residue. If you have lots of residue, or old residue, it may take several
applications. When it's gone, wipe the tape/peanut butter slime off with a
damp paper towel.
