Tape on Meter face.

Actually, regular old WD-40 works great. Just wet the tape and let is soak.
After a while the tape will practially fall off the meter. My experience is
that it does not damage the plastic in any way.

I've always used kerosene to remove old baked adhesive. It's slow,
but it's relatively safe and effective. As usual, try a test first.
