SB-301 and SB-303 questions

Mark,
I have both a SB-301 and a SB-303 receiver. I find the SB-301 a vastly
superior receiver as compared to the SB-303. The SB-301 represents one of
the best examples of a mature tube technology whereas the SB-303 is a poor
example of a new technology -- transistors.

In the area of tuning ease and stability, both are equally good. It is in
the things that make a receiver good where they differ. The SB-301 has good
sensitivety, overload resistance, gain control range and noise figure; all
things the SB-303 lacks. I don't have the necessary test equipment to
quantize these statements but I've listened to enough communications
receivers for a long enough time to know the differances. The SB-301 is a
joy to use whereas the -303 makes your ears hurt after awhile.

Having said all that, anyone want to buy a good SB-303?

73, Stu W6CUX
