George,

Check for poor contact at the resistor metallization areas where the
connections are made to the resistor.  Try probing the resistor (on the
metallization) with an ohmmeter and see if the reading matches what you get
at the cantenna SO-239 connection.  If the connection at the metallization
interfaces are bad, you may be able to rotate the resistor and get better
contact that way.  It is also possible that it is a 75 ohm resistor.  Does it
have a Heath p/n on it?  There are 50 ohm non-inductive power resistors
available, but sorry to say I am not sure from where.  Carborundum is one
company (probably among others) who makes them.
